Saudi-Supported Volleyball Tournament Kicks Off in Hadhramaut

15 Oct 2025

A volleyball tournament has kicked off in Hadhramaut Governorate, marking the first event in a larger sports program targeting four Yemeni governorates with support from the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY).
The tournament is held under the patronage of Hadhramaut Governor Mabkhout Mubarak bin Madi, supervised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Hadhramaut coast office, and organized by the local volleyball federation.
This championship is the first of a multi-sport program spanning Hadhramaut, Marib, Aden, and Socotra governorates. The program includes five competitions—football, volleyball, basketball, handball, and chess—with 96 teams competing in 214 matches.
SDRPY has a strong history of implementing sports projects in Yemen, including constructing FIFA-specification stadiums for clubs. Past programs, such as the Marib football and Hadhramaut basketball championships, have successfully enhanced sports competition and supported athletes and youth development.
